Ulster officials earn praise

Date March 21, 2016

Ulster officials earn praise — Anderson Center for Autism, Staatsburg, recently honored three community leaders with the V.V. Anderson Community Service Award, including Ulster County Executive Michael Hein, Town of Saugerties Supervisor Greg Helsmoortel and Saugerties Police Chief Joe Sinagra.

“The individuals in our care often struggle with significant challenging, and sometimes fluctuating, behaviors, said Anderson Center Chief Operating Officer Patrick D. Paul. “We rely on the actions and understanding of our elected officials such as these gentleman to know Anderson, understand the population we serve, and trust that when we come to them for help, we mean it.”

Hein, Helsmoortel and Sinagra were asked by Neil J. Pollack, the center’s CEO and executive director, to obtain immediate approval to allow for the development of a temporary emergency residence within the center’s Saugerties LifeLong Learning Center. The residence was opened the following day.
