Anderson Supportive Environment

Our Autism Supportive EnvironmentSM program (ASE) is a community partnership designed to assist businesses in understanding, serving and supporting individuals with ASD and their families.  Many times families of individuals with ASD find themselves isolated from their communities and unable to participate in activities we take for granted such as dining out, running errands, enjoying community events or recreation activities.  By becoming an Autism Supportive Environment, your business is recognized as a bridge of acceptance and support, a beacon of hope and a true community partner.

Over 50 businesses have become an Autism Supportive EnvironmentSM!

In conjunction with THINK DIFFERENTLY, Anderson Center for Autism has received a grant from Dutchess County for our Autism Supportive EnvironmentSM program.  Through individualized consultations, Anderson Center Consulting will assist businesses in designing an environment that is supportive to the needs of individuals with autism and their families.

Through this program, our consultants will provide, as necessary:

  • Environmental Assessment: to identify environmental modifications and supports to promote a successful, enjoying visit to their business
  • Staff Training: to provide staff with an overview of ASD and general knowledge to enable them to better understand, serve, and support individuals with autism and their family members
  • Recommendations for Designing an Autism Supportive EnvironmentSM: space planning, environmental design, organization, material management, visual supports to create an environment that is functional, safe, supportive, and provides an enjoyable experience for individuals on the spectrum and their families when visiting their business
  • Resources for obtaining recommended supports, if needed

Businesses that fully complete the Autism Supportive EnvironmentSM  training component of the program will recieve:

  • Autism Supportive EnvironmentSM Certificate of Completion
  • Autism Supportive EnvironmentSM decal for display in the business window
  • Continuous listings on our website, in marketing materials, and in our resource director
